We Make the Path by Walking.
Photographs by Paul Gaffney.
Self Published, 2013. 78 pp., 40 color illustrations, 6¼x8¼".
Selected as a Book of the Week by Colin Pantall
During 2012 Paul Gaffney walked over 3,500 kilometres in order to create a body of work which would explore the idea of long-distance walking as a form of meditation and personal transformation. The result is series of quiet, meditative images, which evoke the experience of being immersed in nature and capture the essence of the journey. The book engages the viewer in this walk, and communicates a sense of the subtle internal and psychological changes which one may undergo while negotiating the landscape.
We Make the Path by Walking was shortlisted for the European Publishers Award for Photography and has been nominated for the Photobook Award 2013 at the 6th International Photobook Festival at Kassel in Germany.
