Photographer Casper Sejersen captures the 2013 cinemat- ic project Nymphomaniac by Lars von Trier in a powerful, arresting and discomfiting series of stills.
Sejersen’s photgraphs remixes von Trier’s film, attempting to unpick the many layers of the story, functioning as an alter- native fac¸ade of von Trier’s beautifully constructed narrative and as a standalone photobook.
Sejersen’s nude portraits are depicted alongside narra- tive objects chosen by Danish art historian Cecilie Høgsbro Østergaard, which allude to a carefully constructed visual history of eroticism; Sejersen’s interpretation of von Trier’s vision forms a dry aesthetic, punctuated by with precision and a sparse sterility by Østergaard’s factual text.
