The artisan village of west Modena, in the North Italy, was conceived in 1949 under the iniziative of the first communist Mayor of the city. In respons to the urban desctruction caused by the Second World War, the employments crisis of the immediate post-war period, the new city's administration created an artisan-light industrial settlement. The work made by William Guerrieri, is not just an archaelogical catalogue of Fordian city, but page after page, with the disarming clarity of documentary language, is also a dialectical refection on the role of seeing and of images in the construction of a collecive imagination. The insert that accompaines the main series, reproducing the namens of the companies based in the Village and a selection of images taken from a phone book published in 1961.
