Black Apple.
Photographs by Thatcher Hullerman Cook.
Obscura Press, 2012. 64 pp., 33 illustrations, 11x9¼".

Publisher's Description
Thatcher Hullerman Cook’s purpose in Kyrgyzstan, a republic born in the rubble of the collapsed Soviet Empire, was to “photograph the dark edges of the Fergana Valley.” This remote region is home to sporadic electricity, frozen wells, and grandmothers who stalk apartment blocks selling buckets of cream. It is also home to a culture on the edge of an abyss, to a people that have looked into the darkness and found light.
