"Envisioning photography as the study of luminance, the interplay of light, form, and gesture in an instant of time; I have been drawn to sacred architecture with an emphasis on pre-industrial natural illumination. In the tradition of sacred architecture, light has been a symbol of the transcendent, a metaphor for the unknowable. Sacred space becomes a visual theology, a sculpture in light, which I then re-interpret through the medium of photography."

Aleksandras Macijauskas - New Artist in our Santa Fe Gallery

photo-eye is the first gallery in the U.S. to offer a marvelous selection of gelatin silver prints by this important Lithuanian photographer. The Lithuanian Village Market series is a fascinating study of the cycles of life in rural Lithuania, where the viewer becomes personally involved at the center of the interaction between people, animals, and the environment that sustains them. We also offer a selection of prints from Macijauskas's other poignant and humorous works, In the Veterinary Clinic and Lithuanian Wedding. Please e-mail Wendy Lewis, Gallery Director, for further information.

Roswell Angier

Each copy is hardbound with the original, somewhat shelfworn, dustjacket.
