Jane Alden Stevens
"While on a research trip to France a few years ago, I found myself standing on a small town square one day. My eye wandered to the obelisk in the center of the square. On it were written the years 1914-18, and under each year were listed the names of the villagers who had died. As I studied this monument further, I noticed a lot of names listed under 1914, even more for 1915 and '16, but far fewer for 1917, and hardly any for 1918. "Why the falloff in numbers?" I asked myself. And then it hit me. There were no more men or boys that this village could send to war. They had already gone."

Planted: A Portfolio by Laurie Tümer
"I don't see why this viewpoint should appear a little odd since it is the perspective from which we see everything. Perhaps it is more that we are unaccustomed to seeing ourselves as part of the picture...that we are planted here briefly alongside the soaker hoses and gambel oak." This delightful work features 23 archival color prints tipped onto embossed watercolor paper and is housed in a handmade portfolio. Please email Wendy Lewis, Gallery Director, for further information.

Jungjin Lee: Beyond Photography Jungjin Lee: Beyond Photography
One of the first things one notices about Lee's prints is their size—they are unusually large. Lee uses Liquid Light—a liquid gelatin silver emulsion—to cover large sheets of handmade Korean rice paper onto which she enlarges her negatives. The results are stunning. The images are obviously photographic but the combination of print size and paper texture gives the work a presence rarely found in photographs.

David Levinthal: Modern Romance David Levinthal: Modern Romance
Levinthal is well known for his staged photographs of toy figurines amidst constructed playsets. Modern Romance, produced during the mid-80s, was the body of work which defined him as an artist. Using just a Polaroid SX-70 camera, he created a world reminiscent of the American 30s and 40s in which characters move and interact in dim hotel lobbies and restaurants. This limited edition contains an original cibachrome print, signed and numbered by the artist. The vintage edition contains the same plus and additional vintage SX-70 polaroid print.
