Merts
"I use photography to explore the unknown—or
rather my own unknown. Not to discover new things, but to
rediscover the old. For I believe that a scene or image
affects us to the extent that it reminds us of something
we already know—setting off that gasping intake of
breath and striking a deep and visceral plangency of reconciliation
with some lost knowledge or ineffable truth."

Imogen Cunningham
This
sensuous Imogen Cunningham image, Triangles Plus One,
1928 is a variant of one of her most famous works,
Triangles, 1928. These images were made in one
sitting during which Cunningham made close to three dozen
exposures. Her models, Helen and Jackie Greaves, were not
only sisters but artists as well. The print featured here
is a platinum print made by Rondal Partridge for the Imogen
Cunningham Trust.

Masao Yamamoto: A Box of Ku
Yamamoto's first monograph is a gorgeous collection of tokens
and symbols, gleaned from the world in which he moves. We
see a pool of tadpoles, a display of fireworks above the city
horizon, and a dog immersed in shadow. Each of these particular
moments stand as indicators of the universal principles which
surround us, weaving an undeniable connectedness of all life.
These signed copies are rare and won't last long.

Barbara
P. Norfleet: Looking at Death
No one looking at this extraordinary book—a collection
of over a hundred gripping yet strangely contemplative photographs—will
ever again look at death in the same way. Arranged thematically,
the work is far from the sensational anthologies that abound
of late. Ideally, this well-thought out compilation is intended
to draw us into a deeper appreciation of the gift of life.
Printing by Stinehour Press lends an air of quiet and stately
reflection to the entire endeavor.
