Karl Blossfeldt's portfolio Urformen Der Kunst
Karl Blossfeldt was a university professor who photographed thousands of plant forms for use in teaching formal art studies at the Royal School of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Berlin. Immensely popular and profound in their simplicity, Blossfeldt's typology of plant forms drew parallels between nature and art that still resonate today. These images continue to inspire jewelers, wrought iron workers, designers, craftsman, and artists worldwide. His vision is as fresh and unforgettable today as one could imagine it to be when first produced. The photogravures in this online portfolio are from the first German edition of the Blossfeldt book Urformen der Kunst.
