Debbie Fleming Caffery's Portfolio: Desire Overall: Recent Work from Mexico
In her most recent body of work, Debbie Fleming Caffery continues her exploration of Mexican Brothels. Photographing her subjects outdoors, she provides the viewer with and ambiguous perspective and sense of humanisim, that echoes the nostalgic reminants of a film still.
Debbie's current show, Polly, remains on view at photo-eye Gallery until February 5.
Backorder a signed copy of Polly, the accompanying monogaph published by Twin Palms.

Michael Levin's portfolio Seascapes
"My photographs often show the abandoned and discarded artifacts of man's interface with the sea. They evoke visual relief in their minimalism and a poignant remembrance of human presence long after it is gone from the scene. In creating these compositions I am immersed in rich and complex transitions between light and shadow, stillness and movement. The combination of these elements evoke a feeling of fulfillment that continues to inspire me."—Michael Levin |

Hiroshi Sugimoto: L'Histoire de L'Histoire
"Contemporary art and ancient art are like oil and water: seemingly opposite poles. Yet for the longest time now, I have found the two melding ineffably together into one, more like water and air. Living with pieces of ancient and medieval art, I have come to feel that I might borrow upon some small increment of their beauty, so as to transplant that power into my own words."—Hiroshi Sugimoto READ MORE

Lynn Davis: American Monument
Lynn Davis' conception of the monument is broad: Her subject matter ranges from that which memorializes—the Jefferson Monument, the Lincoln
Memorial, and Mt. Rushmore—to buildings by famed architects—Mies van der Rohe, Louis Kahn, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Richard Meier to anonymous buildings, signs, and structures that dot the landscape west of the Mississippi. READ MORE

Photo-Eye Booklist: 2004 Holiday Booklist
In this issue of the Booklist, Vince Aletti writes about a new book published by Fraenkel Gallery on Arbus' libraries; Alex Sweetman spends time with Martin Parr and his new history of the photobook. Both of these books, and the articles, contribute to a deeper understanding of the potentials of a photography book.
As usual you will find the Survey of New Books, in which roughly thirty new titles from across the publishing spectrum are reviewed; a second dose of editorial content in the form of articles and interviews; and advertising from a wide array of publishers and photography-related businesses.
