John Milisenda's portfolio My Family
"The subject of my work is my family: my mother Rose, father Sal, and developmentally disabled brother, Dennis. I have been photographing them continuously from 1968 to present. The photographs avoid easy interpretation. They capture the paradoxes and mysteries of my family's dynamics, and represent my fluctuating feelings toward my family: a balance between light and dark, closeness and alienation."—John Milisenda |

Bill Henson: Mnemosyne
A massive tome, Mnemosyne is a mid-career retrospective of the work of Australian photographer, Bill Henson. Kent Haruf & Peter Brown Win 2005 Lange-Taylor Prize
The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University has awarded the 15th annual Dorothea Lange-Paul Taylor Prize to photographer Peter Brown and writer Kent Haruf. The $10,000 award is given annually to encourage collaboration in documentary work in the tradition of acclaimed American photographer Dorothea Lange and writer and social scientist Paul Taylor.
Brown and Haruf's project, "High Plains," will document "the people, land, and small towns of the High Plains: a part of the country that dips eastward from the Rockies and rolls south from Saskatchewan and Alberta to the flatlands of the Llano Estacado of the Texas Panhandle. "Our interest in this part of the world is contemporary but also includes its history and a mix of stories that have passed down over the years, stories that resonate with the land in interesting ways," they explain. Brown's photographs and Haruf's writing will record "moments that describe the beauty, power, tragedy, and cultural complexity of the place itself: the way the land has been used, the way that people have lived on it, and the visual record that has been left behind."

photo-eye Booklist: 2005 Summer
photo-eye is pleased to announce the transformation of our quarterly Booklist into a 100% subscription-based magazine with a 4-issue price of only $20. The Booklist is handsomely designed and intelligently edited, with articles about photobook publishing, interviews with photographers and book makers, and, of course, our much anticipated survey of the best new photobooks from around the world. There is absolutely no other magazine like it.
Over a period of 25 years, the photo-eye Booklist grew from a single typewritten page in 1979, into a respected specialty book catalogue—must-reading for photobook lovers. The latest step in our evolution represents the culmination of several years of concerted editorial development, including more in-depth writing, new features of interest to collectors and photographers, and a summer 2004 re-design. We hope you enjoy our new magazine and support us in this exciting endeavor. Thank you for your help in making this publication a reality.
