FACES: Noh Masks of Naito Clan
"My photographs reflect both genuine interest in my subject as well as a respect for the element of serendipity. I strive for both calculation and discovery in my work, studying my subjects in preparation, while at the same keeping my mind open for the surprises"—Hiroshi Watanabe

Il Palazzo Guglielmi
Photographing inside the Palazzo Guglielmi, a 180-room structure was originally built in 1328 as a Franciscan monastery to honor Saint Francis of Assisi's 40-day stay during the Lent of 1211, I was profoundly moved by its poignant beauty. I found countless quiescent details and fragments of so many years and lives. Moving from room to room was like entering into one heartrending yet serene dream after another. The resulting photographs are a meditation on the negotiation of light and shadow, of memory and loss and of the simultaneous existence of the past and present.

Sonja Braas: Forces Sonja Braas: Forces
"Sonja Braas succeeds in capturing the unrestrained drama of nature, in all its visual and aural strength—but is the spectacle she frames entirely authentic? Subtle hints and surreal light effects suggest that parts of her photographs are simulated, for an artistically inflated version of nature."—the publisher READ MORE

Peter Granser: Alzheimer Peter Granser: Alzheimer
"This book is an artistic approach to the topic of Alzheimer's disease. Many of the images are portraits, a classical way to capture an individual's personality. Texts and images are a plea to the individual and to society as a whole to get involved with people suffering from Alzheimer's disease."—the publisher READ MORE

Alec Soth: Sleeping by the Mississippi Alec Soth: Sleeping by the Mississippi—Signed
"Like Robert Frank's classic The Americans, Sleeping by the Mississippi merges a documentary style with a poetic sensibility. The Mississippi is less the subject of the book than its organizing structure. Not bound by a rigid concept or ideology, the series is created out of a quintessentially American spirit of wanderlust."—the publisher

Raymond Meeks: Sound of Summer Running Raymond Meeks: Sound of Summer Running
"Meeks' photographic images, steeped in warm, lush brown tones and bathed in a nineteenth century light, seem to fall into our laps from a distant era, beyond that of our parents and their fading Kodachromes, and back further yet to an era of Civil War tintypes and twice-a-lifetime portraits."—Darius Himes, photo-eye Booklist Editor.

photo-eye Booklist: 2005 Summer photo-eye Booklist: 2005 Summer
photo-eye is pleased to announce the transformation of our quarterly Booklist into a 100% subscription-based magazine with a 4-issue price of only $20. The Booklist is handsomely designed and intelligently edited, with articles about photobook publishing, interviews with photographers and book makers, and, of course, our much anticipated survey of the best new photobooks from around the world. There is absolutely no other magazine like it.

Over a period of 25 years, the photo-eye Booklist grew from a single typewritten page in 1979, into a respected specialty book catalogue—must-reading for photobook lovers. The latest step in our evolution represents the culmination of several years of concerted editorial development, including more in-depth writing, new features of interest to collectors and photographers, and a summer 2004 re-design. We hope you enjoy our new magazine and support us in this exciting endeavor. Thank you for your help in making this publication a reality.
