Bill Westheimer's portfolio Wabi Sabi
"I am fascinated by taking the familiar and making it unfamiliar. I want people to look and then look again. The world is filled with things that we don't want. I want them. I recycle decaying nature and discarded objects to make pictures: broken glass becomes jewels and weeds become dancers."—Bill Westheimer |

 | Open for Bidding: Claxton's Classic Jazz Life Perhaps the finest book of jazz photographs ever published. Claxton's book is divided geographically to represent the full range of American jazz at the zenith of its power, just before it gave way fully to rock as the popular music of choice. Almost every major jazz luminary of the day is represented; a truly important and much sought after document of the jazz scene.
Closing this week are two lots with rare Cartier-Bresson inscriptions; signed books by Nan Goldin, Lee Friedlander, Alex Webb, and others. |

Chien-Chi Chang: Double Happiness
"For Taiwanese photographer Chien-Chi Chang, Double Happiness is an extremely personal project: 'For years, my folks had been bugging me to get married,' he says, 'and I wanted to show them how I view marriage in Taiwan. I'm not anti-marriage...but I had to do something to protest.' That was in 1994, and thus began Chang's fascination with the Taiwanese wedding industry."—the publisher

LACMA Photo Curator Robert Sobieszek Dies at 62
"Robert Sobieszek, the longtime curator of photography at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, who took a fledgling collection in new directions and mounted adventurous shows that expanded the boundaries of what could be considered fine art photography, died at a Los Angeles hospital Friday after a long battle with cancer. photo-eye Booklist: 2005 Summer
photo-eye is pleased to announce the transformation of our quarterly Booklist into a 100% subscription-based magazine with a 4-issue price of only $20. The Booklist is handsomely designed and intelligently edited, with articles about photobook publishing, interviews with photographers and book makers, and, of course, our much anticipated survey of the best new photobooks from around the world. There is absolutely no other magazine like it.
Over a period of 25 years, the photo-eye Booklist grew from a single typewritten page in 1979, into a respected specialty book catalogue—must-reading for photobook lovers. The latest step in our evolution represents the culmination of several years of concerted editorial development, including more in-depth writing, new features of interest to collectors and photographers, and a summer 2004 re-design. We hope you enjoy our new magazine and support us in this exciting endeavor. Thank you for your help in making this publication a reality.
