Jessica Bruah's portfolio "Stories"
My body of work titled "Stories" began when I decided to merge my love for fiction with my interest with photography. I began to see each image as its own visual narrative...Each photograph contains an anonymous character, seemingly unaware of the lens, whose face is never shown. Although I am playing the dual role of photographer and subject, these self-portraits do not concern the notion of self but rather the idea of constructing reality. Every image is carefully assembled, aided by costumes, props, studio lighting, and posing. All these elements, along with the manipulation of a view camera, bring a surrealistic and often amusing quality to the images." |

| This Week: Eikoh Hosoe on Antonio Gaudi "It was in 1964 when I had my first encounter with the architecture of Gaudi in Barcelona, Spain. It was so sudden and I was so overwhelmed by the extravagant shapes of something like a gigantic body of flesh that I could hardly take a single photograph of them....I sensed an instinctive danger, then, in the mysterious moment mixed with fear and joy. This moment is what I later called the 'Gaudi Shock'"—Eikoh Hosoe

Bob Thall: At City's Edge
"An iron-gray slate on a cold and blustery day, a respite from the summer heat, the engine of the city's notorious blizzards: Lake Michigan is an integral part of the landscape of Chicago. Bob Thall has been photographing the skyline and streets of Chicago for over thirty years, and here in At City's Edge he chronicles the 25-mile shoreline where the asphalt meets the inland sea."—the publisher
