| On the Block: Robert Adams: What We Bought: The New World This book of Robert Adams' photographs from the 1970s is another aspect of his ongoing document of the American landscape. But this time, instead of capturing the beauty of a natural setting, Adams focuses on the city of Denver, Colorado. These desolate images of suburban housing developments, shopping malls, cars, and supermarkets mourn the victory of consumerism over our so-called love of nature and rugged individualism. The book is a subtly devastating portrait of the infiltration of mass-production in the American landscape. |
