Sasha Rudensky's portfolio Remains
"The series 'Remains' explores the political and social transformation of the former Soviet Union in the aftermath of the collapse of communism. Rather than concentrating on the global changes in the region, my photographs focus on the more intimate details of daily life; the interiors and exteriors that form an essence of a culture ... the common experience that at one point united the Soviet republics into a nation, and now unites them in the common experience of disintegration."—Sasha Rudensky

Sonja Thomsen's portfolio Surface
"'Surface' is a series of images that explore the potential of water and the seductiveness of looking. You will find me leaning over the water's edge or hovering over a small puddle. The water becomes glass, dense fog, toxic haze, bodily fluid, and primordial soup. The unfathomable potential of water to sustain life is a phenomenon that preoccupies me."—Sonja Thomsen

David Robinson: Lee Valley Leisure David Robinson: Lee Valley Leisure
"In his latest body of work Robinson focuses on a place that is currently being envisaged in the future as a utopian dream. However, this also presupposes that the land currently has no purpose and is not used, which is far from the truth, as is revealed in Robinson's works."—from the foreword by Camilla Brown. READ MORE

Edward Burtynsky: China Edward Burtynsky: China
"Burtynsky's latest body of work gives visual form to the industrial and urban transformation of China, a place where industrial forces are gathering on a scale that the world has never experienced before. If the earth's resources were up to now under siege through western colonialism and technological progress, then China is on the brink of a sweeping assault on the planet's ecosystem that is only just forming and is nowhere close to expressing its full impact."—the publisher READ MORE

Melanie Pullen: High Fashion Crime Scenes Melanie Pullen: High Fashion Crime Scenes
Melanie Pullen's long-awaited first monograph, High Fashion Crime Scenes, presents her breathtakingly beautiful works based on vintage crime scene images, first-hand accounts, and documents Pullen mined from the files of the LAPD. In 2002, drawn to the rich details and compelling stories preserved in the criminal records, she began restaging the events, outfitting the "victims" (her selected models) in current haute couture, and photographing them in her staged settings.

This special edition of High Fashion Crime Scenes is limited to 50 copies (10 copies each of 5 original prints to choose from), numbered and signed by the artists and presented in a clamshell box. READ MORE

Accolades and Awards for Unknown Tuscany
The last few weeks have seen a steady stream of praise for Patrick Alt's first monograph, Unknown Tuscany. For more information about the show, please check the Istituto Italiano's website. Finally, in October the book will be on display at the Frankfurt Book Fair, one of the largest international book fairs in the world.

VII: Forgotten War VII: Forgotten War
This book is stripped down to just the bare minimum-stitched signatures, cover and content — which emphasizes the design, function, and metaphor of the work. Forgotten War was a collaborative exhibition and book project between five photographers of the fabled VII Agency and Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Together with publisher de.MO, they created a streamlined effort to show the world the present health crisis in the northeastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. ...Reviewed by Larissa Leclair. Portrait: The Portrait Now The Portrait Now
The rivalry between media no longer has the bite of yester-year but everything else is open to question according to The Portrait Now, a thoughtful look at portraiture as practiced during these last 25 years: What can a portrait record? Is it a window into the soul? An insight into personality and character? A fleeting likeness, less accurate with every passing moment? Other than revealing something about the artist, does a portrait tell us anything at all? ...Reviewed by Leah BenDavid-Val. READ MORE
