Leigh Merrill's portfolio House
"My current work focuses on the intersection of fantasy and reality and uses the suburban landscape as its reference point. I believe it is important to investigate the places we live and to try to understand the effects (both subtle and overt) of our constructed environment. I have spent the last year making photographs of houses throughout the Phoenix metro area, tapping into the constructed nature of the suburban southwestern landscape and the sense of desire and perfection that accompany it. The environment they were made in further enhances ... these images: a desert city where the large part of its constructed landscape circumvents its desert placement."—Leigh Merrill

Kishin Shinoyama: Paris Kishin Shinoyama: Paris
Many of the photos in this amazing book will strike the viewer as updated versions of Atget's Paris. Only in ravishing color and with the sort of exquisite detail that the photographic technology of Atget's day could not even begin to capture. This elegantly designed early monograph is now quite scarce.

Meeting Place FotoFest Beijing 2006
This week, our director Rixon Reed is participating in an exciting international event, the first of its kind to take place in China. A team of Chinese photographers, editors, curators and businessmen who came to Houston to see FotoFest 2006, worked with FotoFest to replicate its portfolio review program, the Meeting Place, in Beijing. Rixon, who also participated in the reviews held in Houston, was invited to come to Beijing to participate.

The mission of this event is to inform serious Chinese photographers, both creative art photographers and documentary photographers, about organizations and opportunities for photographic artists in different parts of the world. This international Meeting Place will also serve to bring attention to artists unknown outside of China, encouraging a cross-cultural arts dialogue. More information about the event can be found on the FotoFest website.

Minor White: The Moment of Seeing Minor White: The Moment of Seeing
"Founded by Ansel Adams, directed by Minor White, and staffed by such luminaries as Imogen Cunningham, Dorothea Lange, Lisette Model, and Edward Weston, the first fine-art photography department in the United States was created in 1946 at the California School of Fine Arts (now known as the San Francisco Art Institute). The Moment of Seeing is much more than a history of the program and those who comprised it. Including White's never-before-published writings on the teaching of photography, it is also a rich gallery of iconic images by both renowned faculty members and the dedicated students they taught."—the publisher READ MORE

Shoji Ueda: Una Linia Subtil Shoji Ueda: Una Linia Subtil
"A Fine Line: Shoji Ueda, 1913-2000 presents 150 photographs covering seventy years of the artist's work. Ueda does not consider the individual in isolation but rather as a part of mankind - for he is a humanist who celebrates human beings in their environment. In contrast to the clichés that cloud our perception of the Far East, Ueda eliminates anything anecdotal or picturesque in order to shape a universal language which serves to express the dreams and fantasies of people today."—the publisher READ MORE

Katherine A. Bussard: So the Story Goes Katherine A. Bussard: So the Story Goes
"From early amateur snapshots to today's advanced digital images, photography has been the perfect means to record people's lives. This provocative book explores the complex and varied ways that five contemporary photographers —- Tina Barney, Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Nan Goldin, Sally Mann, and Larry Sultan — use their own daily experiences as inspiration for their art." Martin Parr: Mexico - SIGNED Martin Parr: Mexico - SIGNED
"Mexico is Parr's first new thematic series to be published in book form since 2002, a distinct geographical departure from much of his previous work, and in part a greater departure as well. Parr is struck not only by Mexican culture, but also by the clear impact of America's pop culture and economy on Mexican life. Here viewers are in recognizable territory with Parr's colorful close-ups of food, hats, signs and souvenirs, garishly shot with medical efficiency — but Mexico also includes some straight records of human faces, images that capture photographer and subject in the act of mutual contemplation."—the publisher READ MORE

Richard Renaldi: Richard Renaldi: Figure and Ground - SIGNED Richard Renaldi: Figure and Ground - SIGNED
"Though he works with an omnivorous 8x10 camera, Richard Renaldi has the roving eye of a street photographer, always searching for the brief encounter, the fleeting moment when a stranger will open his or her life to him, and, consequently, to the viewer. Richard Renaldi: Figure and Ground, drawn from more than seven years of work, presents portraits, landscapes and, most importantly, the portraits in situ that meld those two classic photographic genres, in which he embraces not only individuals but the environment that encompasses them."—the publisher READ MORE

"In this collection of photographs, Martha Casanave has taken a conceptual and imaginative, rather than a literal, approach to California's iconic Central Coast. Equipped with only a 6 x 4 pinhole camera, Casanave transforms the recognizable into the other-worldly and brings a timeless elegance and drama to her photography. This series of photographs will interest any lover of seascapes, contemporary photography, and especially those lucky enough to have visited the Central Coast of California."—the publisher READ MORE
