New Topographics: Photographs of a Man-altered Landscape New Topographics: Photographs of a Man-altered Landscape
A groundbreaking and highly influential exhibition curated by William Jenkins, New Topographics organized the work of ten photographers who photographed the landscape in a non-traditional way. While Ansel Adams and his followers photographed dramatic and astounding beauty in the landscape, the New Topographics photographers emphasized the tension between the land's traditional beauty and the results of our presence within it.

With images by Robert Adams, Lewis Baltz, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Joe Deal, Frank Gohlke, Nicholas Nixon, John Schott, Stephen Shore and Henry Wessel, Jr.

Near Fine; crisp edges, tight binding; spotting to front wrapper; spine shows very minor surface creasing.

Kohei Yoshiyuki: The Park Kohei Yoshiyuki: The Park

Due this month. Preorder now.

Captured in three Tokyo parks in the early 1970s, Kohei Yoshiyuki's The Park series features some of the most intriguing photographic works of art ever. Shot at night using flash and infrared film, the photographs show hetero- and homosexuals gathering for furtive sexual encounters in the Shinjuku, Yoyogi, and Aoyama parks. These amorous scenes, however, are unpleasantly crowded; even before Yoshiyuki (*1946) approached them with his camera, the couples had become objects of desire for voyeurs.

"It's not the sex in Yoshiyuki's photographs that is shocking, but rather, it is the reckless, pent-up fascination of the voyeurs—men so possessed that, for the moment, nothing else exists or matters—and the sense that we've all been there,"—Vince Aletti. READ MORE

Alex Harris: The Idea of Cuba Alex Harris: The Idea of Cuba—Signed

Alex Harris will be in the photo-eye bookstore later this week. Preorder your signed copy now.

"Like most Havana streets, this one, Calle Zapatos in Santos Surez, has seen better days. A glance reveals generations of faded paint, cracked plaster, and worn-down sidewalks. It's a curious kind of waiting-at once lethargic and restless-that I've become accustomed to in Cuba. Whatever is going to happen seems a long way off."—Alex Harris READ MORE

Peter Beard: Scrapbooks from Africa and Beyond (Book with DVD) Peter Beard: Scrapbooks from Africa and Beyond (Book with DVD)

More copies of the book arriving in the about one week.

"A series of incisive and never before published interviews by British journalist Edward Behr form the backbone of Scrapbooks From Africa and Beyond that takes viewers to three continents. Beard lives in the present and here we are offered a rare experience to observe how he captures the essence of each moment. Marked by a sense of intimacy and sincerity, Scrapbooks From Africa and Beyond shows Beard at work shooting nudes and fashion, with his family and friends, the native Kenyans he lived near and works with or just one-on-one, in candid and revealing scenes that underscore his life's work."—the publisher

Peter Beard: Scrapbooks from Africa and Beyond (DVD only) Peter Beard: Scrapbooks from Africa and Beyond (DVD only)
"Easily the most compelling and comprehensive movie ever produced about the life and work of Peter Beard, covering all aspects of his life, professional career, and personal adventures beginning in the 1960s through the 1990s. Iconic photographs of Beard s legendary past are revisited and for the first time we hear the stories about making Beard s first book End of the Game, his appearance in the underground classic Hallelujah the Hills, his fortuitous meeting with British painter Francis Bacon, his friendship with Andy Warhol and his youthful acquaintance with writer Karen Blixen. Beard s epic notebooks, bound with ink, blood, photographs, and the detritus of life on the road are matched here for the first time by his recollections of the remnants of Kenya s colonial past."—the publisher READ MORE

David Bailey: Pictures That Mark Can Do David Bailey: Pictures That Mark Can Do
"Bailey also takes such snapshots, images with unusual ease and freedom for him but unusual weight for their ilk. In compiling them, he observed that they seem so easy that even Mark, his assistant, could make them, and the quip became his title. Which is not to say that he doesn't value these photos very highly: Asked to name his best picture in a recent interview, he answered, 'Snaps of my kids.'"—the publisher
