Beth Moon's portfolio Thy Kingdom Come
"The title [of this portfolio], in this case refers to the animal kingdom, where animals in an older world move, gifted with senses we have lost, living by voices we do not hear. Using a metaphoric language these images examine the relationship between man, animal and earth."—Beth Moon

""Who am I to spout about life, love, happiness? About whether all's right with the world, or whether it's just a vale of tears, so store up your treasures for heaven. I think it's unbelievable, fabulous, this life of ours—everything, the birds and the bees, the deer and the antelope, the spacious skies, the foggy dew, the rockabye babies....—Ed Van Der Elsken, quoted in Vince Aletti, "Cafe Noir," Artforum, March, 2000

Photographer Jack Welpott dies at 84.

Photographer Jack Welpott passed away on Saturday November 24, he was 84. At the age of 18 Welpott was drafted into the military, afterwards he took full advantage of the G.I. Bill and attended Indiana University. At first Welpott majored in business, but soon dropped the program to study with Henry Holmes Smith, an abstract photographer who was highly influenced by The Bauhuas. Welpott was also influenced by Minor White, Edward Weston and Alfred Stieglitz among others. In 1959 Wellpot moved to California where he taught at San Francisco State until 1980. During the 1970's and 80's his work was displayed around the world, including shows in Switzerland, Japan, and France.

Welpott worked with a 4 X 5 inch view camera and devoted significant time to the printing process, producing elegant and sophisticated prints. "I like the way it (photography) locks you into the moment, the eternal present... You get a chance to unite with reality... I have come to realize that it is more than an act of monitoring the world"—Jack Welpott
