photo-eye at FotoFest in Houston this month.
photo-eye is proud to once again be participating in FotoFest, the internationally acclaimed photography festival. Held every two years in Houston Texas, FotoFest is one of the most important events on the photography calendar

As in previous FotoFests, photo-eye will be set up as the official FotoFest bookstore, offering a wide variety of international photography books for sale. We'll also be demonstrating our powerful, but affordable, website creation and management tool VisualServer. If you're in Houston during FotoFest, be sure to stop by and say hello to photo-eye Founder and Director, Rixon Reed and partner Vicki Bohannon. They'll be there for the first three 4-day sessions, starting this Friday March 7th and on through March 21st, at the FotoFest Meeting Place, located in the Doubletree Hotel, Houston Downtown. The artistic collaboration of photographer Bettina Rheims and writer/art critic Serge Bramly began in 1991 with this book. The true first edition of this important book; it was reprinted last year by Schirmer/Mosel.

Original 5 x 5 in. C-print (1er juillet II, Paris; p. 100 of the book) laid in!

Pieter Hugo: The Hyena & Other Men Pieter Hugo: The Hyena & Other Men
"Many myths surround the 'Hyena Men' who haunt the peripheries of Nigeria's cities. Accompanied by hyenas, rock pythons and baboons, these men earn a living by performing before crowds and selling traditional medicines. Pieter Hugo's extraordinary portraits of their liminal existence reveal an uncanny world of complex, codependent relationships, where familiar distinctions between dominance and submission, wildness and domesticity, tradition and modernity are constantly subverted."—the publisher READ MORE

Brian Finke: Flight Attendants Brian Finke: Flight Attendants
"Flying the friendly skies, Brian Finke began photographing flight attendants as he crisscrossed the country on Delta, JetBlue, Hawaiian, Hooters Air, Southwest, and Song airlines, before going abroad on Air France, Qantas, and British Airways. In London, he visited a flight attendant school, complete with emergency rafts and billowing smoke. Continuing east, Finke traveled Air Asia, Thai, Tiger, ANA, Japan, and Cathay Pacific. For the grand finale of his two-year trip, Finke traveled the illustrious Icelandair."—the publisher READ MORE

Arlene Gottfried: Midnight Arlene Gottfried: Midnight
"During the summer of 1984, photographer Arlene Gottfried met Midnight, the man who was to become both a close confidant and the subject of her photography documenting the next two decades of his life.
At first, Midnight was a handsome and charming companion who danced and performed at nightclubs. But as time passed, he began to behave in an increasingly bizarre fashion, including being rescued by police at the top of the Williamsburg Bridge and a stint at Bellevue Hospital. Soon after being diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, what followed were years of auditory hallucinations, self-mutilation, and other extreme behavior."—the publisher READ MORE

Arlene Gottfried: The Eternal Light Arlene Gottfried: The Eternal Light
"Arlene Gottfried first came across the Eternal Light Community Singers at a Gospel Fest in an abandoned gas station in New York's Lower East Side. Eventually she herself became a choir member and joined in every aspect of the life of this dedicated community. These photographs are a vivid portrait of that life: intense and vibrant, a truly unique record."—the publisher READ MORE

Arlene Gottfried: Sometimes Overwhelming Arlene Gottfried: Sometimes Overwhelming
"Before gentrification, New York City was a gritty and inspiring place. And in its midst was Arlene Gottfried, whose eye for the sublime caught it all. Sometimes Overwhelming, her second powerHouse Book, is a manic yet romantic ode to the people of New York City in the 1970s and 80s. From Coney Island to a Hasid at Riis Beach?s nude bay to the disco nights of sexual abandon and the children in the original Village Halloween parade, Sometimes Overwhelming is a delightfully lighthearted look at the most outrageous people you might ever see."—the publisher READ MORE
