The Transparent Cityreviewed by Charles Dee Mitchell
Modern physics teaches us that what we perceive as solid mass is composed mostly of empty space. It's a difficult concept to get you mind around, especially when you stump your toe or fill a cup with coffee, but the photographs German photographer Michael Wolf has taken in Chicago depict our urban skyscraper environments as a model of that concept... read the whole reviewsee more reviews

| Daniel Seymour: A Loud Song A Loud Song was a landmark book in the new personal documentary style: Tulsa, The Lines of My Hand, Vagabond by Gaylord Herron, Danny Lyon's Paper Negative and Bill Burke's books all owe something to A Loud Song. Seymour was a friend and neighbor of Robert Frank's on the Bowery in New York City. They worked together on a number of projects. The last being Frank's film on the Rolling Stones: CS Blues. Shortly after the filming was done Seymour was killed on a sail boat in the Caribbean. |

John Stezaker: Marriage
"Marriage, this latest monograph in John Stezaker's brilliant Film Portraits, finds the British artists once again playing the edge between caricature and portraits, the real and the incredible. Stezaker's medium is vintage film stills, and his delicate, almost Cubist, portrait-collages, which play with scale, representation and - most powerfully - the viewers' expectations, seem both vulnerable and even more deeply human than the 'real thing.'"—the publisher READ MORE

John Stezaker: Masks
"This exhibition catalog from Stezaker's recent show in London includes eighteen collages that focus on the British artist's fascination with the hidden face. As the artist explains it, the masks are 'a way of negotiating a threshold between the living and the dead, which in a way is what I think all art is trying to do, it's trying to reanimate the dead.'"—the publisher READ MORE
