photo-eye Gallery introduces Liz Hickok as our new gallery artist!
San Francisco-based artist, Liz Hickok, creates balsa models of the city, casts them in silicone rubber and fills the molds with several shades of a dessert we thought was only for our eating pleasure, Jell-O®.
Liz states, "The gelatinous material also evokes uncanny parallels with the geological uncertainties of San Francisco's landscape. While the translucent beauty of the compositions first seduces the viewer, their fragility quickly becomes a metaphor for the transitory nature of human artifacts."

| Richard Prince: Jokes, Gangs, Hoods (SIGNED) "Most everything Richard does is calculated to reflect another of his practices. Every medium and every theme is supported by, and in turn supports, another body of work. Gangs, and Jokes, and Books, and Collections, and Cowboys, and Sunsets, and Houses, and Hoods, and Planters all reflect and enhance each other. At times, he collates his images in picture books-the first was Inside World, which served as the title of a catalogue for a group show (with the same title) that Richard was in at Kent gallery. These picture books are probably my favorite of his books because they are where Richard creates and curates himself."—excerpted from, Dike Blair,"A Reflection or Two (on Richard Prince), Parkett #72, 2004

Michael Lundgren: Transfigurations
"Historically, landscape photography was used as a means of documenting geographic and scientific exploration. Later it transitioned into a way to record nature and the spectacle of human progress. Rarely has it been employed more abstractly to convey an atavistic or ecstatic experience as it is in the new work of Michael Lundgren.

William Christenberry: Working from Memory
"Working from Memory is a collection of stories by the renowned photographer,
painter and sculptor William Christenberry. Based on conversations
with author and critic Susanne Lange, these stories elaborate
the artist's memories of the Deep South, in whose rich literary tradition
they are steeped. In a lyrical but lucid prose, they set personal experience
against the backdrop of important political and cultural moments
in the southern states,"—the publisher READ MORE

Edward Steichen
"Edward Steichen was already a famous painter and photographer in America and abroad when, in early 1923, he was offered the most prestigious position in photography's commercial domain: that of chief photographer for Vogue and Vanity Fair.
