David Taylor's portfolio Working the Line
"To the American public the Border Patrol generally functions either as the heroic defender of our periphery or as a band of government thugs that beat up on displaced Mexicans. Neither exaggerated position is accurate. Most agents say they want a clear mission and will enforce whatever border policy the American electorate articulates. They view their work as service to our country in much the same way that someone in the military would. Many are frustrated by the presentation of the border issue in mainstream media. Some agents believe our current border policy is misguided while others equate the border issue with post 9/11 national security."—David Taylor

Dave Jordano's Abandoned Waterslide, Charleston, IL, 2006 from the series prairieland was chosen by Bookstore Associate and Preparator Ben Lerman.
"I hope I've approached this project with an objective point of view and have attempted to let myself and my work be directed by the environment within which I travel in. I have discovered that much of what I've seen is not the expected idyllic prairie state covered with beautiful rolling fields of tall grasses. Instead, Illinois is a state long monopolized by mechanized agricultural farming, creating endless fields of corn and soybeans and leaving several hundred economically challenged older small towns doting the landscape. Within this geographic and economic framework I'm searching for strong notions of individualistic expression that are tied directly to the land and its people. Through observation this work explores that expression visually."—Dave Jordano

| Richard Misrach: Grapestake Gallery Exhibition Catalogue (Hardbound, Signed Ltd. Ed. of 100!!) The wildly scarce limited edition of this early catalogue! The stark, unadorned design of the book suits the austere tone of Misrach's desert landscapes. Made with a flash, these eerie photographs focus on monolithic natural features such as cacti, palm trees, and boulders. His images are not easily forgotten, recalling the surrealistic experience of driving through deserts at night, and seeing features of the landscape loom momentarily in the car headlights then recede into the dark. |

Dan Winters: Periodical Photographs
More copies arriving in 1-2 weeks.
"With one foot in art history and the other firmly in his own time, Dan Winters has produced many of the most classic celebrity portraits of the past 15 years. Sometimes the poses are familiar from early Renaissance portraiture-the profile or three-quarter profile view of the subject beginning from the chest up, the eyes raised skyward, the background a murky monochrome. In other portraits, Winters conjures early photography, and in yet others, one finds entirely contemporary backdrops of freeways or industrial interiors."—the publisher READ MORE

Dave Jordano: Articles of Faith—Signed
Signed copies arriving in 2-4 weeks.
"In this era of suburban mega—churches and televised Sunday morning services, it is easy to forget that many Americans worship in small, community churches whose sanctuaries are often repurposed commercial spaces. In Articles of Faith, photographer Dave Jordano documents the at once humble and dynamic storefront churches of Chicago's African American neighborhoods. These churches, which dot the south and west sides of the city, are truly community churches individualized and idiosyncratic, they cater to the specific needs and wants of their members."—the publisher READ MORE

FotoGrafia. Rome's International Festival
8th edition
29 May - 2 August 2009
Declinations of Joy. Taking photographs: Visions and Portrayals
The eighth edition of FotoGrafia - Rome's International Festival, will be held from May 29th to August 2nd 2009. The Festival is sponsored by the Municipality of Rome's Department of Cultural Policies and is produced by Zoneattive, with artistic direction by photographer and publisher of Punctum Books Marco Delogu. This year once again the festival takes place under the Patronage of the President of the Republic and the Aegis of the Ministry for Fine Arts and Cultural Activities and is sponsored by Baume et Mercier.
This year's theme, Declinations of Joy. Taking Photographs, Visions and Portrayals, arises from a desire to regain possession of photography as action and content, as well as the happiness and the emotions this generates and that at times are lost between the drama of reportage and the glamour of fashion photography.
This year the Festival presents a new format with its heart at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni which hosts the official exhibitions and events. The Festival also includes the traditional Circuit of art galleries and bookshops which is more concentrated and presents even more qualitative work, thanks to the all operators have been invited to create one single exhibition for the festival. The objective is to allow viewers to see all FotoGrafia's exhibitions and events in just one week from May 29th to June 6th.
the programme includes a series of meetings with curators, photo-editors and photographers, among them Davide Monteleone and Alessandra Mauro, Eva Frapiccini, Eric Kessel, Bruno di Marino, Christian Sinibaldi, Juliana Beasley and Melanie McWhorter from photo-eye.

SUMMER 2009 WORKSHOPS
The Book Journey
with Eddie Soloway
June 21—27, 2009
We are fortunate to live at a time when the tools to make a beautiful, personal book are well-honed and literally at our fingertips. Print-on-demand books have emerged as a practical way for every photographer to celebrate a body of work, a personal experience, or a creative idea.
Open to anyone with a book concept and an edited set of images (and text if desired), this new workshop takes participants from the initial idea to the finished book. Under Eddie's guidance, we go through each step in the process: clarifying the idea, editing images and any text, learning the digital workflow to maintain the beauty of our images, designing a layout, and uploading the finished book. Throughout the week, we analyze examples of beautiful books for inspiration as we acquire the tools to bring book making into our repertoire.

The Color Moment
with Arthur Meyerson
June 21—27, 2009
The great color photographer Ernst Haas once said, "The decisive moment in black and white is not the same in color. Each needs awareness in seeing and, because of this, a different discipline." This workshop is for serious amateurs and professional photographers who want to heighten their awareness of seeing in color and record those distinctive color moments. Through daily assignments, critiques, and discussions, we acquire new techniques that make us more sensitive to light, color, and composition, in order to see and capture those fleeting instants when all three of those elements come together.
Our week begins with a review of each photographer's images and a discussion of personal and career goals. In addition to addressing the aesthetics of the color moment, Arthur leads group critiques and spends individual time with each participant. He guides participants in applying their unique vision of the world to develop and refine an individual style for creative fulfillment and professional success. Daily assignments in the field put classroom techniques into practice and allow us to take advantage of the stunning light and colors of northern New Mexico. Participants leave at the end of the week with a greater awareness of their personal vision, strengths and weaknesses, and an enhanced sensitivity in capturing the "decisive moment" in color.
