|
photo-eye Editions
Last week we announced photo-eye's first publication, a handmade limited edition book of the work of David Trautrimas and the response has been fantastic! For those that have already preordered, thank you so much for supporting our first publication!
We are now just days away from launching our new website devoted to photo-eye Editions, but until it's ready, please email us if you would like advance information and the price for our first publication.
If you missed it last week, here is the announcement for photo-eye Editions.
We're tremendously excited to announce that after almost 30 years of specializing in selling photobooks, photo-eye is starting an ambitious publishing program. We have formed a new division, photo-eye Editions, dedicated to publishing limited edition books and an ongoing series of portfolios of works by contemporary photographers.
Our first publication, Habitat Machines by David Trautrimas, shipping in August, is now available to preorder. Limited to 50 signed and numbered copies, it includes the entire suite of twelve images from the Habitat Machines series along with a thirteenth image created especially for our inaugural publication. This additional image is included as a separate signed and numbered 11x14 inch print and is not available in any other form. The book is printed using archival pigment ink on acid-free paper and housed in an elegant anodized aluminum archival box.

Michael Donnor's portfolio Silent Moan
"I have always been fascinated with the idea that people are not as they seem. ... I believe it is a rare happening when the true self is shared, and even more rare when that true self is seen. Instead, what is shown to the world is a projection of the blurred truth of self; a projection of how people think they should be seen."—Michael Donnor

Raymond Meeks: middle air
"'middle air' is a sixteen page artist book that traces the routine cutting
of a sparse section of lawn in the backyard of our home in rural montana.
Our son, Adam, was fifteen and not keen to yard work or gas—powered mowers.
How is it that these pictures trigger such great feelings of loss for me now,
one year later? Memory is an undeniable force behind making art, the drive not
to forget, documenting the events of our lives over and over again, longing to fill
the void of what's missing.
The eleven pictures were printed in the order they were exposed (from one roll
of 120 mm film) and are a witness to the everyday, prosaic and all that passes
as unremarkable. The hard, mid-day light on the back of my son recalls, for me, an
assurance I'd had when he was still a boy-how wonderful he is in this world.
The pages of the book are 'french fold' and hand sewn by esteemed book artist,
Rory Sparks.
The edition size is limited to 40 books and prints."?the publisher READ MORE

Orna Wertman: Broken Landscapes 2003 - 2008
"Only at second glance does one notice that there is something wrong with Wertman's
landscapes where a disturbance or an illogical natural relation raises more questions
than it answers. A breakwater doesn't go into the sea but into a swampy landscape;
what seems to be sky is a field of ice in which absent trees are reflected; the birch
wood tree depicted also has its entire root system exposed. As these and other
colour collages demonstrate, the photographer's work deals with the fragmentation of
perception, the concomitant experience of reality, globalisation and the permanent
danger of the unexpected."—the publisher READ MORE

and well produced catalogue was also published to coincide with an exhibition of the

Nan Goldin: Variety
"Variety: Photographs by Nan Goldin compiles the still photographs Goldin created for director Bette Gordon's now—infamous 1983 independent film, Variety, and offers a rare glimpse into this artist's symbiotic working process. Hallmarks of Goldin's early work and the influence of filmmaking on Goldin's prolific career are on display in this project. Hovering unsettling between fiction and reality, 'documentary style' and art photography..."—the publisher READ MORE

Christopher Anderson: Capitolio
"Capitolio is documentary
photographer Christopher
Anderson's cinematic journey
through the upheavals of contemporary
Caracas,Venezuela, in the
tradition of such earlier projects as
William Klein's New York (1954—55)
and Robert Frank's The Americans
(1958). It presents a poetic and
politicized vision, by one of today's
finest documentary photographers,
of a city and a country that
is ripping apart at the seams
under the stress of popular unrest,
and whose turmoil remains largely
unreported by Western media."—the publisher READ MORE

Gregor Sailer: Ladiz
"Perhaps it's because one of photographer Gregor Sailer's Tyrolean ancestors lost the Alpine pasture he owned in a card game a few generations ago. Maybe it's the challenge of working with large—format film in the extreme conditions of the Alps: above—timberline altitudes, sub—zero temperatures, wind blasts and blowing snow. It could be the enchantment of composing photographs that capture the beauty of the Austrian Alps, or the responsibility of documenting the mutations of alpine landscape under the pressures of tourism and global warming. In any case, this beautifully designed volume is the perfect showcase of Sailer's most recent work."—the publisher READ MORE
