photo-eye Gallery Summer exhibition: Elemental

Three concurrent exhibitions: Mitch Dobrowner, Chris McCaw and Edward Ranney.

Opening reception Friday, July 9th, 2010 5-7 PM
Gallery exhibitions continue through September 5th, 2010.
photo-eye Gallery is located at 376-A Garcia Street, Santa Fe, NM 87501

Mitch Dobrowner will be exhibiting work from his Storm series, inspired by a ten day venture following severe weather systems. Chris McCaw will be showing his one of a kind paper negatives. In this series of work, McCaw takes long exposure during the day, allowing the paper negative to be burned by the sun. Edward Ranney will be exhibiting work from his newest monograph, Down Country — a collaboration with renowned writer and Galisteo resident Lucy R. Lippard — a selection of photographs from the historically rich Galisteo Basin.

David J. Carol: All My Lies Are True... David J. Carol: All My Lies Are True...—Signed
"In the spirit of celebrating the self-published book, I thought I would share one of my favorite self-published titles of 2010. David Carol's latest book All My Lies Are True... is a refreshing reminder that somewhere wanders the obscure photographer, creating images of the mundane and absurd. Carol's new title showcases the beauty that allows photography to be the means of an adventure born of travel, humor, and intelligence - a journey that ceases to end once the shutter is released, but rather continues to develop into a diary of genuine and often humorous photographs." — from Antone Dolezal's review of All My Lies Are True... on the photo-eye Blog. Jessica Backhaus: Jesus and the Cherries Jessica Backhaus: Jesus and the Cherries
"Jessica Backhaus takes a characteristically serene tack to these pictures of a Polish village and its environs, eliciting a kind of nostalgic portrait of the European present. Its inhabitants and domestic interiors match each other in their composure, but there are hints of uncertainty as well." — the publisher

Bill Diodato: Care of Ward 81 Bill Diodato: Care of Ward 81—Signed

From the Foreword by Mary Ellen Mark:
'It's painful for me to look at these pictures. They evoke feelings of life and death. I can hear the sounds of women running through hallways and someone shouting, "Meds, meds, come and get your meds." I can hear the crying of a woman being locked down in restraints. I can hear the music of the jukebox at the once-a-week dance with the women of Ward 81 and the men of Wards 82 and 83. Bill's book brings me back to the haunted cell in which I slept in a deserted ward right next to Ward 81. I swear I heard people walking above me all night. This was so puzzling because the floor was not occupied. Bill's images confirm the feeling that I always had-that Ward 81 was and still is inhabited by many ghosts. '—Mary Ellen Mark, 2010

About the Limited Editions:
Care of Ward 81 is available in a signed, numbered and slipcased limited edition of 100 with both the book and the slipcase bound in Japanese Saifu cloth.

The deluxe limited edition of 50 comes with a print, and is also signed, numbered, and slipcased with both the book and slipcase bound in Japanese Saifu cloth. The deluxe edition print of 50 included with the Deluxe Edition is printed on the archival environmentally sound Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta paper. This image is printed with the finest archival inks available on the market today. Each print is signed and numbered by the artist.

 photo-eye Magazine Reviews
Nils Petter Löfstedt From Club 13
Nils Petter Löfstedt From Club 13

"Club 13 is the first published work by the Swedish photographer Nils Petter Löfstedt. The book documents the mayhem and antics of youthful partygoers in an anonymous city. Evoking the style of Wolfgang Tillmans, Löfstedt's stark images casually observe an array of distinctive nocturnal characters. Interspersed within these raw portraits are random soft focus shots of shrubs, flowers and landscapes." —From John Mathews' review of Club 13 by Nils Petter Löfstedt
From Grave Images

"'Widowed at the young age of twenty-four,' writes photographer Kathy Hettinga in the introduction to her visually evocative and lyrically composed book, 'I found comfort in the shared sorrow of the cemeteries.' Hettinga's documentary study of homemade grave markers in southern Colorado's San Luis Valley is a personal, spiritual and cultural study of the most thoughtful, probing and perceptive sort." —From Joscelyn Jurich's review of Grave Images by Kathy T. Hettinga
