Kyle Ford's Forever Wild
"In the 1890s, a boundary of 6.1 million acres in northern New York was placed under constitutional protection forming the largest publicly protected area in the continental US. The border that defines this park is known as the "blue line." Within the blue line, all public land is governmentally sanctioned as "forever wild" in an attempt to [re]create the pristine wilderness that once existed.
Currently in progress, these images are a selection from a body of work about the land and the inhabitants of this park." — Kyle Ford

photo-eye Gallery is pleased to announce a Summer Lecture Series, presented in collaboration with New Mexico Lawyers for the Arts. NM Lawyers for the Arts is a nonprofit dedicated to providing artists and arts organizations with pro bono legal assistances and educational programming.
This summer series will focus on current legal issues in the art world, more specifically, issues in copyright and fair use. The Art Law Lecture Series will be a three-part discussion consisting of two lectures and one panel on the topics of copyright, fair use and current issues in appropriation art - a subject that all artists and photographers would benefit from knowing more about.
All are free and open to the public on a first come, first serve basis.

 Redheaded Peckerwood

Christian Patterson on the Second Edition of Redheaded Peckerwood
"Christian Patterson's Redheaded Peckerwood was released to stunning success in November of 2011, just in time to make it on multiple top-books-of-the-year features, including 8 lists on our own Best Books of 2011. Originally conceived as a self-published artist book centering around the story of the infamous murder spree of 19 year old Charles Starkweather and 14 year old Caril Ann Fugate, Patterson's book 'record[s] places and things central to the story, depict[s] ideas inspired by it, and capture[s] other moments and discoveries along the way.'"

 Amc2 Journal
|
Archive of Modern Conflict: Amc2 Journal
"The prevalence of vernacular and ephemeral material in contemporary art could make Amc2 Journal appear unremarkable, yet it stands out. Amc2 Journal should not be confused with an art project; the archive's endeavors are more aptly described as an exercise in curation. Preserving materials with the ambition of "reveal[ing] unexpected stories about the nature of our world" and "illuminat[ing] lost corners of our cultural life," an archive, AMC, is just the organization to be bringing us these documents. While their offerings are consistently objects of beauty appealing to an artistic audience, the books are presented outside of the shadow of artist's intention with a tone that is neither pretentious nor precious." — Sarah Bradley from the review of Amc2 Journal by Archive of Modern Conflict

 The Latin American Photobook
|
The Latin American Photobook
"The Latin American Photobook is the latest survey of photobooks to follow on from Parr and Badger's two pioneering volumes.
The format is familiar; books are grouped into themed sections and described through key images and notes on how and where the photographer fits into a broader social, cultural and visual history of a region. And while many of the names are familiar (Testino, Sanguinetti, Calderon, Larrain), the vast majority will be new to all but the most dedicated photobook aficionado. Lucas Foglia: A Natural Order—Signed
"In the summer of 2006, Lucas Foglia set out to photograph a network of people who had left cities and suburbs to live off the grid in the rural southeastern United States. Many were motivated by environmental concerns, others were driven by religious beliefs or predictions of economic collapse. While everyone he photographed was working to maintain self-sufficiency, none lived in complete isolation from the mainstream. Instead, they chose which parts of the modern world to embrace and which to leave behind." — the publisher
