Interviews: Jock Sturges on Mit Jock Sturges Familär
"We are please to report that we recently received the newest book by Jock Sturges — Mit Jock Sturges Familär from Galerie Vevais. Over the course of his 30+ year career Jock Sturges has published roughly 15 books. Sturges is known for his portraits of families from naturist communities in Europe and the US. Sturges often photographs individuals over a period of time, in some cases as long as 30 years. Working with a large format 8x10" camera, he creates luminous black-and-white and color portraits with an interest in capturing the ever-changing body. I have asked Jock Sturges to tell us a little bit more about his new monograph. In this conversation he has offered expert advice on the book publishing process." — Anne Kelly

Interviews: Tom Chambers on Entropic Kingdom
"Known for his evocative and beautifully eerie photomontages, the much-anticipated first book from Tom Chambers, Entropic Kingdom, will be arriving at photo-eye next week. Published by ModernBook, the book was designed by Chambers and features work from five of his photographic series and an essay from photographer and editor of the Lenscratch blogzine Aline Smithson. As with all ModernBook editions, Entropic Kingdom is also available in a limited edition of 100 copies that includes a matted print of With the Pack, signed and numbered. We asked Chambers to tell us about the creation of the book and what it's like to finally have his work in print."

A Closer Look - Darkroom
"There is a sense that Bartos sees his subject as such... a relic to be photographed with a certain level of indifference. There is little emotional connection. Instead, Bartos has approached his subject similar to how an archeologist would photograph the evidence of a city's ruin, displaying the aging of time through dismantled enlargers and a discontinued dry-press.'" — from Antone Dolezal's post on photo-eye Blog.

You Look at Me Like an Emergency

You Look at Me Like an Emergency
"Upon first learning that Cig Harvey's wondrously whimsical photographs were being published I was skeptical. Not all photography needs to be seen in book form, and I was less than clear about how Harvey's images would fare on paper. They look great individually, and great framed and hung on walls. One by one they are enigmatic artifacts of an anomalous, nomadic imagination. Would this seemingly disconnected set of parenthetical tableaux translate effectively to book form? My guess was no. And my guess was wrong." — George Slade from the review of You Look At Me Like an Emergency by Cig Harvey

 The Dutch Photobook

The Dutch Photobook
"For such a small country, the Netherlands punch above their weight when it comes to the photobook. Perhaps the compact size of their country is connected to Dutch skills in the book arts. Design inundates every inch of Dutch life; inventive architecture, utilitarian town planning and a landscape that is designed to maximise its potential whatever the use. The Netherlands lives and breathes design." — Colin Pantall from the review of The Dutch Photobook

Mit Jock Sturges Familär by Jock Sturges
An oversized book with more than 50 unpublished photographs and a text by Jock Sturges. Rare is the day when a publisher comes to an artist and says 'What for you would be a perfect book?' and then, having listened to the artist's immoderate ideals, says, 'Yes, we can do that. We will do it exactly as you like.'
There will be a special limited edition of 30 signed and numbered copies of the book with an original print (27,5 x 24 inch) printed, numbered, and signed by Jock Sturges and presented in a large, handmade clamshell box. The purchaser may select his or her choice of one of the three prints. View Book with three print choices, which are labeled on this jpg as Print Choice 1 and shown below as CLAM1 and so on.
There will be also an extremely special deluxe limited edition of 11 signed and numbered copies, of which only 9 are for sale. This edition will presented in a large, handmade, artist-designed case hand-crafted in aluminum and wood. View Sturges with Stand.
The case will contain both the book and an original print (36 x 24 inch) printed, numbered, and signed by Jock Sturges fixed under acrylic glass.
The case is constructed so that it will also function as a display presentation both for the book and the print. Assistants: Denise Avayou, Reka Lajgut, Max Kühn and Hans-Ulrich Müller.

Thatcher Hullerman Cook: Black Apple
"Thatcher Hullerman Cook's purpose in Kyrgyzstan, a republic born in the rubble of the collapsed Soviet Empire, was to "photograph the dark edges of the Fergana Valley." This remote region is home to sporadic electricity, frozen wells, and grandmothers who stalk apartment blocks selling buckets of cream. It is also home to a culture on the edge of an abyss, to a people that have looked into the darkness and found light." — the publisher
About the Limited Edition
The limited edition includes a signed copy of the book and an 8x10' silver gelatin print of Pomegranate Still Life, Osh, signed, numbered and in a protective sleeve in the front of the book. Edition of 200." READ MORE
