Update on Michelle Frankfurter's Destino
Back in April we presented an interview and new selection of images from Photographer's Showcase artist Michelle Frankfurter. In her Destino portfolio, Frankfurter has photographed the journey of undocumented Central American migrants as they make the dangerous trip through Mexico to cross into the United States. This spring, she used the crowd-funding site Kickstarter to raise the money needed to hire a fixer and complete the project, photographing along the notoriously violent Mexico/United States border.
The response to Frankfurter's Kickstarter request was tremendous, allowing her to begin shooting in May, but just as she was getting starting, Frankfurter abruptly had to return to the United States. She wrote about her time in Mexico in a backers-only blog post for her Kickstarter campaign, which she was kind enough to share with us here.

The Sochi Project Books
" The Sochi Project is of a rare breed of journalism. With astounding foresight and depth of interest, photographer Rob Hornstra and writer/filmmaker Arnold van Bruggen have spent three years documenting the city and surrounding region of Sochi, Russia, the location of the 2014 Olympics. Identifying the contrasting economic nature of the region with the splendor of the Olympic games, Hornstra and van Bruggen have dedicated themselves to a 5 year documentation of the area, capturing the colossal transformation it is undergoing in preparation for the massive global event, changing the region, as Hornstra and van Bruggen say, 'beyond recognition.'" — Sarah Bradley

 from Artist Book

Artist Book by Ori Gersht
"Israeli filmmaker Ori Gersht's Artist Book is pretty much exactly that: it's not a photography book in the traditional sense, an artist's photographs reproduced in book form. It is instead a three-volume companion piece to Gersht's films, Evaders, Will You Dance for Me, and Offering. There is a much thinner fourth volume that contains Robert Rowland Smith's essential expository essay on the themes and ideas present in Artist Book. I am not familiar with Gersht's work, so had to review the book independent of its relationship to the source films." — from David Ondrik's review of Artist Book by Ori Gersht
