Photographer's Showcase: Kevin Kunishi's Los Restos de la Revolucion
"I focused primarily on Northern Nicaragua where much of the heaviest fighting had occurred. I traveled mostly by bus or hitchhiked around the states of Jinotega, Matagalpa and Nuevo Segovia. I spent months in numerous Sandinista and Contra communities dotting the main roads through those rural areas. Slowly after my arrival in these communities, word began to spread of my intention and things naturally grew from there. I began conducting interviews with individuals who fought in the war or experienced those volatile times. The stories were repeatedly quite similar on both sides, tales of rape, the loss of loved ones, fear of being killed and the horror of taking of another's life. Following the interview we would create a portrait, always being conscious of what transpired between us and whatever ambient energy was created as a result." —Kevin Kunishi, from his interview on the photo-eye Blog
We are pleased to announce that new photographs from Kevin Kunishi are now available. View the complete selection of images here.

Photographer's Showcase: John Delaney's Golden Eagle Nomads
"The Golden Eagle Nomads project started on a late night in the spring of 1998 when I caught part cable TV nature documentary about Mongolia. The show briefly touched on the Golden eagles of the Kazakh nomads. I was just coming off a long and intense printing job for Richard Avedon's The Sixties book and was looking for a personal project that would get me as far away from my NYC darkroom as possible. The Golden Eagle Nomads immediately fired my imagination and after some research I was off and running." —John Delaney, from his interview on the photo-eye Blog.

Richard Misrach & Kate Orff: Petrochemical America
"In the last century, the landscape of the Mississippi river that runs through Louisiana has been transformed many times; from its natural features of bayou, floodplain and backswamp, to a rich agricultural area ripe for the production of sugarcane, indigo and cotton, to the area thick with petrochemically-related industrial plants. This area epitomizes all that is beneficial and detrimental about our contemporary petrochemical age. Many of the products we use daily contain elements derived from these production facilities and those like it around the world. In the new publication by Aperture, Petrochemical America, photographer Richard Misrach and landscape architect Kate Orff combine their talents with a team of great designers and researchers to communicate the complex issues relating to the extraction, storage, disposal, distribution and refining of this finite resource and the multiple ramifications of this highly political and controversial industry." — from Melanie McWhorter's review of Petrochemical America by Richard Misrach & Kate Orff

David Rochkind: Heavy Hand, Sunken Spirit
"Over the past six years Mexico has been consumed by a brutal conflict - more than 35,000 people have been killed and kidnappings have skyrocketed. After barely winning Mexico's 2006 presidential election, Felipe Calderon escalated the battle against the country's drug cartels in an attempt to marginalise the deadly gangs and the corrupt politicians and police officers who enable them. The cartels are ruthless, meting out an awesome brutality where heads are rolled into crowded discos and dismembered bodies are abandoned on busy streets. The gruesome nature of the crimes is at once unbearable and on display for the entire country to see." —the publisher READ MORE
