 NewFeature!BookoftheWeek:APickbyMartinParr
We are thrilled to announce a new feature at photoeye.com called Book of the Week: A Pick. Each week we ask a renowned photographer, publisher, curator, editor or other photobook expert to pick a book that they are currently reading — one that they are excited about and would love to share.

To sign up to receive advance notices of Book of the Week click here.

For the first pick, we asked one of the most famously prolific photobook collectors Martin Parr to select a book that he is currently enjoying. Parr has selected The Fourth Wall by Max Pinckers. This book is now out-of-print but we are receiving a few copies from the publisher. Please place your backorder immediately.

Book of the Week: A Pick by Martin Parr
The Fourth Wall by Max Pinckers

"The sleeper book of the year is Max Pinckers' The Fourth Wall by this emerging young Belgian photographer. It is a very nice production, and this self-published book, on a charmingly cheap newsprint examines the idea of the Indian film world and the escapism of this, alongside a very good set of contemporary images. These two ideas are woven together with great skill and the book just seems to work very well."
— Martin Parr

Martin Parr is a photographer, a curator and editor. He is currently working on Vol 3 of The Photobook, A History and a book about the history of Chinese photobooks. http://www.martinparr.com.

AMC2 Journal Issue Five: Notes Home

"Notes Home, issue 5 in the Archive of Modern Conflict's periodical series, brings back warm memories for me. It's a collection of postcards from the English East Coast, a place I lived with my family for a year as an adolescent; our town, Bridlington, is among the many resort cities pictured... The book is like a little time capsule — capturing both a history of these places, but also giving a glimpse into the lives of a few people who looked to them for rest and rejuvenation." — from Sarah Bradley's review of AMC2 Journal Issue Five: Notes Home

Hiroshi Hamaya & Kansuke Yamamoto: Japan's Modern Divide

"Japan's Modern Divide is a beautiful book with beautiful images and informative, accessible essays on the work of both Hiroshi Hamaya and Kansuke Yamamoto. It is an old-school catalogue that is a welcome addition to any collection and is highly recommended as both a valuable resource on the history of Japanese photography and the development of photographic movements in the decades preceding and following the Second World War." — from Colin Pantall's review of Japan's Modern Divide by Nadav Kander

Irene Kung: The Invisible City

"This rare, transformative book includes an illuminating essay by Francine Prose, who prefaces it with an apposite quote from Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities: 'Arriving at each new city, the traveler finds again a past of his that he did not know he had: the foreignness of what you no longer are or no longer possess lies in wait for you in foreign, unpossessed places.' Kung's photographs change the viewer into a fortunate fellow traveler into new cities built by imagination, dreams and feeling, guided by Kung's inventive vision." — from Joscelyn Jurich's review of The Invisible City by Irene Kung
