Traveling to Sassafrass, Tennesse, Cass Bird took along with her a cast of female friends and women picked off of the streets of New York. The pages of her book Rewilding contain a moving and strikingly beautiful series celebrating modern femininity and sexual independence. Hand-picked by the photographer for their androgynous personas and alternative lifestyles, the women here are seen in playful poses while sharing a deep sense of camaraderie. Containing both black-and-white and color photographs, the images in this book are stunning in their reproduction. Copies are in stock and available for order.
Celebrating one of the world's most revered and controversial artists, New York Photographs 1983-1993 by Ai Weiwei contains 227 photographs taken over the artist's early career. The photographs are beautifully printed and document the development of the East Village, the Tompkins Square Park riots and the AIDS epidemic. At times the viewer is presented with controversial subject matter of the era, and at other times given glimpses of Weiwei's subtle and contemplative approach. Copies are now in stock and available for order.
Two new titles by Michael Kenna are now in stock. Published by Gallery K.O.N.G., the first edition of Tranquil Morning and second edition of Philosopher's Tree continue Kenna's unique style of minimalist landscapes and long exposures. A limited number of signed copies are in stock and available for order.
Published by Nazraeli Press, American Faith by Christopher Churchill provides a highly engaging perspective on the state of 'faith' in America. There is no judgment in Churchill's photographs. Instead the photographer has chosen to piece together a collection that represents the diversity in how Americans from all cultures approach their own unique ideas of faith. Paired with interviews of his subjects, the viewer is presented with a wide-range of 'faiths' — from traditional religions, alien obsessions and even one individual's faith in Elvis. Both the subject matter and photographs here are thoughtful and engrossing. Signed copies are arriving soon and are available for order.
The self-titled Dirk Braeckman contains the photographer's ambiguous and stylized series of haunting interiors and mysterious portraits. Braeckman's use of an unusually dark color palate translates his work to something more gestural than traditionally photographic, as if the photographer is using a watercolorist's technique on photographic paper. Motion and deep blacks blend together creating a nuanced atmosphere that leans towards an obscure narrative. Copies are arriving soon and are available for order.
The Village by William Guerrieri takes the viewer through the artisan village of west Mondena, Italy. Constructed by the city's first communist Mayor, The Village is a reflection of collective effort and ideals. Here, Guerrieri speaks from the viewpoint of a true documentarian. Deconstructing the city's streets, residence and factories, The Village offers a subtle reflection on both the city's past and present. Signed copies are in stock and available for order.
Also by William Guerrieri, Where It Was documents the construction of a new high-speed rail system in Bologna Milano, Italy. By using found photographs and family albums along with his own stunning imagery, Guerrieri has pieced together a series that evokes the identity and memory of a place undergoing drastic transformation. Signed Copies are now in stock and available for order.
