A new collaborative project from Alec Soth and Brad Zellar, Ohio is the culminate efforts of the pair's one-week trip across the state. Both photographer and writer embarked on their journey in May of 2012 in search of community traditions. From carwash gatherings to insights into the Moose fraternity, Soth and Zellar explored the commonalities that bring people together and form communal bonds. Throughout the pages of Ohio appear Soth's underlying dark sense of humor and intelligent photographic portrayal. Copies are arriving soon and are available for preorder.
L'homme a La Mauvaise Camera by Miroslav Tichy brings together another stunning collection of the work of the eccentric Czech artist. Living most of his life as a recluse in his hometown of Kyjov, Tichy spent his time building his own cameras and photographing the women around his town. Often surreal, these photographs depict the artist's fascination with the local women and use techniques that blur and manipulate the final image. The artist's obsession with his work and subject has led to recent critical acclaim and this book is a continuation of the investigation into Tichy's prolific work. Copies are arriving soon and are available for preorder.
New from Patrick Frey Editions, Miss by Martin Guggisberg shows the ins-and-outs of the many beauty contests taking place in resorts and hotels all across Switzerland. From quirky to traditional, these contests bring together a wide array of female contestants and onlookers. Here Guggisberg goes behind the curtain and gives personal insight into a cultural phenomena based on vanity and fame. Copies are arriving soon and are available for preorder.
Two new publications from World Photo Press highlights the culture of military garb in a unique and unorthodox way. U.S. Navy Book focuses on visual identity and fashion in the United States Navy. Looking backwards to the present, this book displays a wide array of clothing styles and is captioned in both English and Japanese. Surplus Book 01 takes the viewer through the vaults of Army surplus fashion. Camouflage fatigues and combat boots make their way onto the pages in creative and often odd ways. Copies of both World Photo Press books are arriving soon and are available for preorder.
