NEW ARRIVALS +  08.18.12 Vol 9.33

amc2 “I suppose it's possible to approach something without expectations yet still be surprised by it, as I was with Issue 2 of Amc2 Journal from Archive of Modern Conflict. A small amount of investigation reveals that this issue is (nearly) an entirely different animal from the first, not simply in form, but also in tone and content. The fantastic design by Melanie Mues jumps out immediately. Unlike the perfect bound Issue 1, Issue 2 has two stitches down the spine with untrimmed pages extending in a significant creep. The layered page edges echo the cover illustration abstracted from one of Martin Parr's beloved postcards of concrete hotels that are shared with us inside.” – from Sarah Bradley’s review on photo-eye blog.

collection Mrs. Merryman’s Collection is an exquisite book detailing the imaginative life of Anne-Marie Merryman. From 1937-1980, Anne-Marie collected postcards from around the world, accumulating a large number of objects that are strange in subject while also curious in their uniqueness. After being passed down to her granddaughter Anne Sophie Merryman, this stunning assortment of postcards parallels both women’s lives and is a fresh take on vernacular imagery. Published by Mack, copies are now in stock and are available for order.

Mannequin by Lee Friedlander continues the legacy of the prolific and seemingly ever-inspired photographer. The photographs in this book were made over the past three years in the cities of New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, giving a new perspective on Friedlander’s evolution as a street photographer. Aesthetically modern, these images also delve into the surreal — pursuing themes of sex and the material world. Copies are now in stock and are available for order.

Body by Matthew Chase-Daniel explores up close and explicit details of the human body. At times grotesque, the images here blur the line between sexes and what is beautiful. The cameraless images were rendered using a flatbed scanner, pulling out sharp detail and texture that further obscures the artist's subject. Copies are now in stock and are available for order.

We hope you enjoy this week's selection of New Arrivals!
