Whitney Hubbs Statement

Artist Statement
My photography comes from my everyday experience. Portraits, landscapes, and snapshots are used as a way to explore and combine memory and fantasy; themes of sexuality, love, loneliness, disappointment and hope. I am interested in the ideas of journey, representational and metaphorical; and the collective portrait of my generation. I am inspired by the transitions that I experience, as well as my subjects and how I relate to them. And I look to the weather and the landscape to describe cycles of time. These photographs are symbols of my life; and once edited and sequenced together they become my own parables. And it is my intention to show what it is that connects us all; the loves, the sadness, the happiness, and the fears. What is the vulnerability and the resilience that makes us each human and strong.

Process Statement
I shoot with color negative film, in both medium format and 35mm. The prints are traditional c-prints and vary in size, from 16” X 20” to 30” X 40”.
