Pentti Sammallahti

April 28th – June 24th, 2017
Opening Friday April 28th, 2017 5–7pm

photo-eye Gallery is delighted to announce Warm Regards, an exhibition of small-scale traditional black-and white gelatin silver prints by preeminent Finnish photographer Pentti Sammallahti. A traveler and a visual poet, Sammallahti has travelled widely from his native Scandinavia, photographing across Russia to Japan, India, Nepal, Morocco, Turkey, throughout Europe, and South Africa. Meticulously composed, the artist’s photographs are imbued with a sense of wonder, delight, and reverence for the world at large while reflecting on both beauty and the human condition.

Jennifer Greenburg: Revising History

photo-eye Gallery is thrilled to announce Jennifer Greenburg, our latest addition to the Photographer's Showcase. Greenburg challenges social norms and the nature of vernacular photographs in her current series Revising History. Seamlessly interjecting herself in mid century images from the 1940's – 60's, Greenburg creates convincing counterfeit moments liberating the pictures from reality and reminding us of photography's fragile relationship with the truth. Revising History's imagery is exceptionally sharp with a sly sense of humor, while also touching on issues in today's culture and political climate in America.

Karen Kuehn: Maverick Camera
Opening and Book Signing Saturday, February 25th, 2017, 3–5pm
Exhibition continues through
April 29th, 2017

Maverick Camera is a collection of Karen Kuehn’s work primarily centered on her time as a professional photographer in New York City. Previously a Ranger for the US park service in Montana, Kuehn arrived in NYC in the late 1980’s just as The Factory, Interview Magazine, and Punk Rock were exploding on the scene. Maverick Camera the book is a memoir of sorts, where personal recollections and anecdotes mix with images lending an intimacy to the monograph while giving readers insight as to how a particular model or experience affected Kuehn.
