Molly McCall: Home Movies

photo-eye Gallery is excited to introduce Molly McCall’s Home Movies to the Photographer’s Showcase. In Home Movies McCall employs the cinematic qualities of found vintage photographs to construct narratives exploring the passage of time, transition, transformation, and loss. Each scene is directed by McCall as she hand-paints color swatches and pattern across the enlarged vintage images essentially reframing them to reveal gestures of unfinished stories and the murky sense of memory.

A tale begun in other days

Opening & Artist Reception
Friday July 7, 2017 5–7pm
July 7 – September 9th, 2017

photo-eye Gallery is thrilled to announce Maggie Taylor: A tale begun in other days an exhibition of color photomontages from our newest represented artist Maggie Taylor. Maggie Taylor constructs what she terms “dreamlike worlds inhabited by everyday objects.” An early adopter, Maggie Taylor has been utilizing digital technology to build her evocative and elaborate photomontages for more than 20 years. These whimsical narratives often begin as pastel background drawings with additional components such as 19th Century photographs, drawings, vintage toys, seashells, feathers, and taxidermy scanned and meticulously arranged over time to complete the scene. Working instinctively, Taylor crafts a surreal alternate reality rife with curious peculiarities and rich in symbolism.

Karl Blossfeldt Karl Blossfeldt
The Architecture of Plants
July 31st - September 30th, 2017

photo-eye Bookstore Project Space is pleased to feature Karl Blossfeldt: The Architecture of Plants, an exhibition featuring twenty exquisite black-and-white photogravure plates from Blossfeldt’s seminal monographs Urformen der Kunst and Wundergarten der Natur. Karl Blossfeldt insisted that ’the plant must be valued as a totally artistic and architectural structure,’ and his iconic monographs are a testament to that belief. A pioneer in the field of macro-photography, Blossfeldt often constructed his own cameras allowing him to magnify his subject 30x to craft compositions infused with abstract shape, transforming ordinary buds, pods, and twigs into exotic specimens with rhythmic form.

Jennifer Greenburg Jennifer Greenburg
Jennifer Greenburg: Revising History

photo-eye Gallery is thrilled to announce Jennifer Greenburg, our latest addition to the Photographer's Showcase. Greenburg challenges social norms and the nature of vernacular photographs in her current series Revising History. Seamlessly interjecting herself in mid century images from the 1940's – 60's, Greenburg creates convincing counterfeit moments liberating the pictures from reality and reminding us of photography's fragile relationship with the truth. Revising History's imagery is exceptionally sharp with a sly sense of humor, while also touching on issues in today's culture and political climate in America.
