These new photographs are part of a continued exploration of John Cage’s compositional techniques that began with Whittler's recent solo exhibition titled The Use of Noise at Thierry Goldberg Gallery, New York.
“Imaginary Landscape No. 1 borrows the phrase-length structure of a John Cage composition from 1939 of the same name. Using light leaks to attribute numerical values to photographs, it takes the original Cage composition’s structural principle and applies it to the organization of photographs.”
