Photographs by Werner Bischof. Introduction by Hugo Loetscher. Biography by Guido Magnaguagno.
Bulfinch Press, New York, 1990. 256 pp., 216 b&w illustrations,, 9½x11¾".
This is the first book to fully document the work of photographer Werner Bischof, a major figure in post-World War II photo-reportage. Trained as a graphic artist and photographer, Bischof was associated with the Swiss magazine Du in the 1940's and traveled on assignment throughout war-devastated Europe. His photographic essays endure as witness to that era and as visual expressions of its moral and social concerns. This book reproduces a wide selection of his classic images, along with letters, drawings and excerpts from his extensive journals.
