The Island of Long Hot Nights. [Atsuku Nagai Yoru no Shima] Osamu Nagahama's Okinawa Photographs. Tokyo, 1972. First edition. Stiff wrappers in photo-illustrated dust jacket. Original printed belly band(partial) Black-and-white and toned black-and-white reproductions. INSCRIBED on verso of front cover and dated in year of publication.

Included in Parr/Badger, The Photobook: A History, vol. III.
Nagahama's photographs of Okinawa show some of the hallmarks of the mature Provoke style--rough, grainy, and out of focus. Despite this, his images convey an extremely pointed critique of the U.S. presence on the Island, a constant since the end of W.W. II. Brilliantly printed, with blue and blue-green cyanotype toning interspersed with rich black-and-white this is a book whose closest counterpart--with which it certainly ranks with the high points of the Provoke movement. Quite scarce, with only one copy, in Japan, listed in OCLC!

About Near Fine; just a bit of wear to extremities; spine crease with weak hinge; belly-band missing front half.
