Terri Weifenbach’s Favorite Book from 2020

A Sensitive Education by Francesca Todde.   Published by Départ pour l’image.

I opened the book and my breath slowed. 2020 fell away. Francesca Todde has described in visual, visceral terms, a particular understanding of birds. The book is wrapped around the life work of Tristan Plot. His story is revealed at the end of the book in the descriptions of the characters, the birds and himself. When young, he found that with immense patience and slow movements he could gain the confidence of birds. With her own beautiful photographs, archival images and the design of the book, Todde guides us to this place of slowness, of consideration for another whose consciousness is so different from our own.
