Speak the Wind by Hoda Afshar. Published by MACK.
There have been several fantastic photobooks published about Iran in the last couple of years — one of them is this incredible book by Hoda Afshar – that lead me to believe that there is a rich and complicated photographic history there and worth much more attention. This book works as an informative documentary about Iranian people caught in the Strait of Hormuz, and as a harsh, gorgeous, poetic rendering of an unforgiving landscape. Speak the Wind also functions as a great example of book design, with interesting and original strategies for layering narratives.
