This issue of The Archive focuses on the relationship between Ansel Adams and Paul Strand, ranging from their first meeting in 1930 to Strand's death in 1976. Essays by Mike Weaver and Anne Hammond explore how the philosophical similarities and differences between the two men, especially in regard to how they believed people should relate to their environment. Paired images--one from each artist--are offered as examples of their differing points of view. The second half of this issue is devoted to the correspondence between Adams and Strand, published here for the first time.
