Publisher's Description

Expected arrival: late October

Josef Koudelka is one of the world’s most important and widely recognized photographers. Koudelka: Returning, which was published on the occasion of his 80th birthday, offers a comprehensive look at Koudelka’s life and work, including all his major and by now legendary photographic series: Beginnings, Experiments, Theatre, Gypsies, Invasion 68, Exiles, and Panorama.

Besides Koudelka’s photographs, many of which have become canonical works of world photography, the book also presents unique documentary information such as excerpts from his diaries, contact prints, examples of book or magazine mockups from 1969 in preparation for his series Invasion 1968, and photographs of friends or from his personal life.

The book was conceived of and edited by Josef Koudelka himself, who is known not only for his exceptional diligence, focus, and sensitive approach to capturing the world on film, but also for his uncompromising thoroughness and desire for perfection, all which combine to make this book an exceptional experience.
