Publisher's Description

Punks and rebels in the dive bars and streets of New York, portrayed in the New Wave style

Sam Marie-Saint debuts Sodapop, a monograph of raw and cinematic images inspired by French New Wave and classic Italian cinema, James Dean and 50s Americana, defining a contemporary fringe culture shot primarily in Downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn.

A homage to his youth, Sodapop documents the grit and glamour of New York City’s restless dreamers, iconoclasts, rebels, punks, and romantics adorned with fishnets and lipstick-stained cigarettes. Marie-Saint captures breathtaking moments of stillness and solitude amidst the city’s bustling streets, scenic rooftops, and seedy hotel rooms, shot guerilla style in predominantly two months with his signature candor and vivid contrast.
