Publisher's Description

Selected as one of the Best Books of 2014 by:
Raster is a new experimental piece of work by Yukihito Kono which consists of the repetition of personal portraits taken in the morning of a day of journey he had in Japan in the summer of 2014.

Yukihito Kono was born in Kanazawa Japan in 1989, and currently lives and works between London and Japan. Rather than in the gallery space, Kono has presented many of his works in a vertical and personal space; in book-form which is exceedingly personal yet opens/gives more direct dialogue and experience between the work and viewers. His recent experimental works explore the vanishing point of transience and permanence, in other words the presence of things through photography.

Where is the soul of a photograph? Is there something inside or something missing? As many of precursors have sought the answer for those questions, however in a very simple and minimalistic manner, Raster raises a doubt towards our perception of images and the conception of ‘photography’, and at the same time, this is an endeavour of a man to embed his memory of the past in photographs/in a book, which is one of the very initial and organic concepts of photography.
