Publisher's Description

Leporello in 10 sections. Silkscreened hardcover. Limited edition of 100 numbered copies.

Coming after Enter the Pyramid, Contemporary Archaeology, is the second volume of Olivier Cablat’s ongoing project on contemporary Egypt. The french photographer continues his study of Egyptian Society and its relation to history. Specially by focusing on symbol’s recovery (ou re-apropriation) and recurrence in egyptians’ day-to-day lives. The front side of the book presents an everyday items taxinomy showing the repetition of historical forms in ordinary objects. On the back side, Casern’s allegory, a spectacular panoramic view, shows a fictional photographic report about Ramses 1st mummy’s transfer, from Karnak temple to Louxor museum. In a huge photomontage made  with unselected photographs, mimiking archeologiques procedures that uses fragments, Cablat gives what he calls a mental reconstitution of  the scene.
