Publisher's Description

11 Saddle-stitched, uncoated softcover booklets (28 pages each) in a slipcase.

For this new edition, Antics Publications partnered with Image Threads (Jenia Fridlyand, Nathaniel Grann and Kevin Kunstadt) to curate, edit and offer selected photographers a more in-depth look into the photobook making process, involving them step-by-step in the making of their individual books.

The Journal of Grievances Vol. IV: Collected Tales spotlights ten independent photographers from a range of backgrounds with their own photo series, each brought together into an eleven-piece anthology. Traversing scenes from an ancient city in Italy, to deep Bavarian forests, to suburban family life in Boston, U.S., the ten selected photographers showcase unique tales of their own telling through a short series of photographs, accompanied by ten short tales in a separate book by writer George Weld. Their collected tales are then interwoven into a larger body of work exploring shared themes of storytelling across borders, time zones and landscapes, from moments of intense isolation to total freedom.

A short photo series by invited photographer Judith Black is the centerpiece of the anthology. Black, a Guggenheim Fellow, is known for her large-format photographs using Polaroid Type 55 black and white film documenting the domestic interior and exterior. Her work has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art, the Fogg Museum at Harvard University and the Polaroid International Collection.

The ten photographers featured in the journal are, invited photographer Judith Black (U.S.), Alana Perino (U.S.), Ciro Battiloro (Italy), Elena Helfrecht (Germany), Felipe Romero Beltrán (Colombia), Harrison Miller (U.S.), Ilya Nikitin (Russia), Isabella Convertino (U.S.), Maxwell LaBelle (U.S.) and Robin Bernstein (South Africa).

George Weld (U.S.) is a writer. He has a Master of Arts in Creative Writing and Poetry from Boston University. Amongst his most recent work on photography is his short essay ‘An Impossible Weld’ in Raymond Meek’s Ciprian Honey Cathedral,” publication for which he collaborated with his short writing entitled “an impossible weld.”
