People and Power.

Portraits from the Federal Village.

Photographs by Michael Evans. Preface by George F. Will. Essays by Jane Livingston and Alan Fern.
Harry N. Abrams, New York, 1985. 231 pp., 9½x11".

A remarkable book in many ways, People And Power presents "the men and women whose lives and work center on the White House, Capitol Hill, and other corridors of power." In 1980 Michael Evans was appointed as President Reagan's personal photographer; in 1981 he conceived of the project of photographing not only the president, but also the people surrounding him at various levels of power and influence. Included are members of the press corps, as well as the president's personal friends (Pat Boone), White House visitors, numerous senators and representatives, and others essential to Washington politics.
