Texts by Nancy Newhall, with an introduction by Beaumont Newhall.
Aperture, New York, 1989. 256 pp., 20 b&w illustrations,, 6½x9¼".

Biographer and historian Beaumont Newhall has written some of the most incisive texts ever published on the inner lives of such photographers as P. H. Emerson and Ansel Adams, Langdon Coburn and Edward Weston. This collection of his work shows him as a true innovator in the way he combines ideas and images into biographical portraits that are invariably greater than the sum of their parts. Several of the pieces are published here for the first time. Newhall's writing is as distinctive as it is insightful.
