Photo-Eye: 76 Photos of the Period.

Edited by Franz Roh and Jan Tschichold.
Arno Press, New York, 1973. 104 pp., numerous halftone plates, 8¼x10¾".

The milestone Stuttgart exhibition "Film and Foto" of 1929 was the source and inspiration for this volume documenting the "New Photography" that was being developed worldwide as a branch of modern art. The most significant focus of the book is on the photomontage and mixed-media experiments that were largely the work of artists active in Germany in the 1920's. Photographers such as Moholy-Nagy, El Lissitzky, Man Ray, and Edward and Brett Weston are but a few of the remarkable artists featured who achieved great impact on the international photographic community.
