Photographs by Rosamond Wolff Purcell.
David R. Godine, Boston, 1980. 65 pp., 10½x9½".

Purcell's second book of photographs uses a number of interesting techniques to convey multi-layered illusions. She works with Polaroid materials and uses reflective surfaces to cast light on her subjects. Sometimes Purcell photographs translucent surfaces, many of which are ambrotype portraits, through which may be seen strange juxtapositions of people, bones, animals, and other arcane and exotic objects.
